Common Problems of Soft Seated Gate Valves and Their Solutions

A soft seal gate valve is a new generation of traditional gate valves. It uses the compensation function of the elastic wedge to achieve a good sealing effect. It has the characteristics of easy opening and closing, reliable sealing, good elastic memory and long service life. It is widely used in tap water, sewage, construction, food, electric power, medicine, metallurgy, light textile, energy system and other working conditions. Let's take a look at the problems that often occur in the use of soft seated gate valves and their solutions.

1. Leakages at the packing of soft seated gate valves
(1) The packing gland is too loose.
Solution: Tighten the nuts that compress the packing gland.
(2) The packing rings are insufficient.
Solution: Add packing.
(3) The packing is not working.
Solution: Replace the packing. When replacing, we should pay attention to the joints between the coils being staggered.

2. Leakages at the sealing surface between wedge and valve seat of soft seated gate valves
(1) The sealing surface has dirt.
Solution: Rinse and eliminate it.
(2) The sealing surface is damaged.
Solution: Replace the damaged sealing surface with a new one.

3. Leakages at the connection between valve bodies and bonnets of soft seated gate valves
(1) The nut is not tightened well.
Solution: Readjust it.
(2) The flange sealing surface is damaged.
Solution: Repair it.
(3) The gasket is damaged.
Solution: Replace the old gasket with a new one.

4. Inflexible rotating of the valve stem of soft seated gate valves
(1) The packing is pressed too tightly.
Solution: Loosen the nuts on the packing gland properly.
(2) The position of the packing gland is not correct, which makes the valve stem stuck.
Solution: Screw the nuts on the packing gland evenly to make the gland return to its normal position.
(3) The threads on the valve stem and valve stem nut are damaged.
Solution: Disassemble and remove them.
