Differences Between Cryogenic Valves and Normal Temp. Valves
As the name suggests, the cryogenic valve is a valve that can work in the extra-low temperature working condition. Defined by its working temperature, we regard one whose working temperature is lower than -40℃ as cryogenic. They are mainly used in equipment for gas liquefaction, separation, transmission and storage. And the use temperature can reach down -270℃ below. There are currently cryogenic types of gate valves, globe valves, check valves, ball valves, butterfly valves and throttle valves.
Over recent years, the ultra-low temperature valve has been used ever more widely. It is one of the essential and important equipment in petrochemical, air separation, natural gas and other industries. Its working medium is not only extremely cold, but also most of them are either toxic or flammable, explosive, and of strong permeability. These features put forward the valve material and design and many other special requirements.
Compared to the normal valve, the cryogenic valve's packing part is higher, and it takes the use of an extended stem. It is aimed to reduce the heat from outside; ensure the temp. of the packing box above 0℃; make the packing box work normally; prevents frost or freezing of the stem and upper parts of the bonnet in the stuffing box area due to excessive cold in the stuffing box section.
