General Knowledge About Butterfly Valves
The butterfly valve is installed vertically in the pipeline. In the cylindrical channel of the butterfly valve body, the disc-shaped butterfly plate rotates around the axis with a rotation angle of between 0° and 90°, and when it rotates to 90°, the valve is in a fully open state.
The butterfly valve is simple in structure, small and light, and consists of only a few parts. It can be opened and closed quickly by rotating it by 90° and is easy to operate. When the butterfly valve is in the fully open position, the thickness of the butterfly plate is the only resistance when the medium flows through the valve body, so the pressure drop generated through the valve is small, so it has good flow control characteristics. The butterfly valve has two types of seal, elastic seal and metal seal. With a resilient seal valve, the seal can be inlaid on the valve body or attached to the butterfly plate perimeter.
Valves with metal seals generally have a longer life than those with resilient seals, but it is difficult to achieve a complete seal. Metal seals can accommodate higher operating temperatures, while resilient seals have the disadvantage of being limited by temperature.

The construction principle of the butterfly valve is particularly suitable for making large diameter valves. Butterfly valves are not only widely used in general industries such as petroleum, gas, chemical and water treatment, but are also used in cooling water systems in thermal power stations.
There are two types of butterfly valves in common use, namely, the WAFER butterfly valve and the flange butterfly valve. The wafer butterfly valve is connected between two pipeline flanges with double-headed bolts, and the flange butterfly valve is with flanges on the valve, and the flanges on both ends of the valve are connected to the pipeline flange with bolts.
