Valve’s Forming Process Technology: Casting & Forging

Casting
Casting is a way which turn metal liquid to solid. It is a adaptable and flexible way, suitable for many kinds of metallic material, such as iron, carbon steel, alloy steel and so on. Also, casting is not restrict by the component's shape, weight, thickness comparing with forging. Any part could form by casting, even the small, precision part. And it's easy to access the casting material, including scrap, iron filings... However, because of its many steps, long process, the products quality is hard to control, also have high scrap rate. And the worker is hard to employee since the hard working environment.

Forging
Forging is a way which forming shape by extrusion in high temperature. It makes the internal structure of the material firm, which significantly improves the mechanical properties. But, Forging pressure increases the manufacturing cost due to the need for heating, forging equipment, and the required mold. Also there are certain application limits for materials, for high alloy steel, stainless steel forging is more difficult. The best forging material is medium and low carbon steel.
